The Silesian University was founded in 1991 and initially included faculties of philosophy and business, today this state university consists of four parts: the Faculty of Arts and Sciences in Opava, the School of Business Administration in Karvina, the Faculty of Public Policy in Opava and Mathematical Institute in Opava.
